While we encourage everyone to learn about our native birds through reading about them or browsing our online resources, we’re sure you’ll agree there’s nothing quite like seeing birds in their environment. Everyone should experience first-hand the natural wonders of our native birdlife and join in the wonder of seeing birds all over the country. Whether it’s in your own neighbourhood or across the continent, there’s something for all types of bird enthusiasts.
We have some incredible Bird Observatories in Western Australia that are must-see spots and provide opportunities to see a wide array of rare birds, such as migratory birds from Siberia. You could visit the Eyre Bird Observatory, Australia’s oldest, and monitor birds from the Great Australian Bight.
Then there’s also the Discovery Centre at Sydney Olympic Park, which offers a variety of ways for people to learn about, see and engage with birds amidst the sprawling parklands. And only a couple-hours drive from Melbourne is the wonderful Clarkesdale Bird Sanctuary, where you can lose yourself in the rich variety of woodland birds andl beauty of the surrounding landscape.
