There will be four to five 20-minute bird surveys conducted on both Saturday and Sunday mornings, and new surveyors will be paired with an experienced surveyor.
This event is suited for anyone who loves birds and fieldwork. You must also be able to travel to Cowra and cover all your own expenses. Some prior identification experience would be an asset, and a willingness to learn is welcome.
Please get in touch with the organiser. Participants meet on Friday beforehand (i.e. 14 July) at 6:00 pm at an as yet undisclosed venue in Cowra to receive survey kits, instructions, survey partners arranged etc. More details, including the location of the Friday meeting place, will be sent out by email.
Surveys start nominally at 7:00 am Saturday and Sunday mornings and are completed between 7:00 and 11:00 (4-5 sites each morning).
Please note that it is difficult to accommodate last-minute, new volunteers, i.e. in the ten days, say, before the survey weekend. But please feel free to contact us even if it is close to the survey data, and we will send you more information about upcoming surveys.
These surveys are scheduled to be conducted four times each year. This call is for the Winter: 15-16 July 2023 survey only.
We will advertise other surveys closer to the date. In the meantime, please make a note of the remaining dates for 2023-2024:
Autumn: Completed Winter: 15-16 July 2023 Spring: 14-15 October 2023 Summer 24: 17-18 Feb 2024
