Only a few weeks after her appointment, BirdLife Australia’s new CEO Kate Millar made a visit to NSW to meet with BirdLifegroups across the state.

Kate has been associated with environmental protection for many years and has much experience in executive leadership, financial management and stakeholder engagement. She joins BirdLife after 3 years as Executive Director of Emergency Recovery Victoria. In previous roles over her career spanning more than 20 years, she has worked at senior levels in the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, the Victorian Coastal Council and in Parks Victoria. She has a Master’s degree in forest management/ forest resources management.

Accompanied by Dr Holly Parsons, Kate visited the Discovery Centre at Newington in Sydney on 24 July, where she viewed the facilities, went on a short bird walk and met members of BirdLife Southern NSW’s executive committee – Ian Bailey, Cathy Goswell, David Marquard, Iain Paterson, Dan Vickers and Barry Walsh.

Kate emphasised during the meeting that she was keen to start in her new job by consulting widely and regularly engaging with BirdLife volunteer groups so that the resources of the national office are utilised to maximum effect.

Committee members gave her a warm welcome and look forward to her next scheduled visit later in the year.
