About our group

BirdLife Bendigo-Echuca District unites bird lovers across the NSW–Victoria border, serving members who live in southern New South Wales (Municipality of Deniliquin, and Murray, Conargo and Barham Shires and surrounding areas) and northern Victoria (City of Greater Bendigo, and Campaspe, Gannawarra and Loddon Shires and surrounding areas). It’s a region rich in wetlands, woodlands, rivers and wide-open skies — and the perfect backdrop for shared discovery, connection and community.

Formed in Echuca in the early 1990s, our branch has grown into a welcoming flock that values friendship as much as fieldcraft. We love birds, but we also love birding together — our outings, events and online community thrive on shared sightings, storytelling, learning and bringing the social side of birding to life.

Birds inspire us. Community defines us. And the joy of birding together keeps us coming back for more.

Get involved

We gather on the 3rd Sunday of each month for our main bird walk, exploring different habitats across our district. These outings are welcoming, relaxed and designed to spark conversation, learning and shared excitement — a place where seasoned birders, bird photographers and brand-new beginners walk side by side.

On the 1st Tuesday of each month, we host a gentler, urban park meet-up with easy paths, restrooms and a café nearby. It’s birding at a slower pace, where the focus is as much on connection as observation — a favourite morning for swapping stories, comparing recent sightings and enjoying a coffee with fellow bird lovers.

Each year, our annual birding weekend takes us to a fresh regional destination, offering guided morning and afternoon bird walks, a nocturnal adventure and flexible options for bush camping or nearby town accommodation. The days are full, the atmosphere friendly, and the highlight often continues after sunset, when many of us reconvene for a pub dinner to compare notes and share a well-earned meal.
