Australian Bird of the Year 2025

It’s back. Australia’s favourite feathery showdown is here once again! The Guardian and BirdLife Australia have launched Bird of the year 2025, nominations now open!

Nominate your favourite bird now

What bird is getting your vote?

Here at BirdLife Australia HQ, the house is divided! Will it be the Regent Honeyeater, the glittering jewel of the forest? The Powerful Owl, Australia’s largest owl with piercing laser-like eyes? Or the Red Goshawk, our rarest bird of prey? You decide.

Nominate the bird you want to be in Bird of the Year

Voting will kick off on Monday 6 October and the winner will be announced on Thursday 16 October. Each day, the five birds with the fewest votes will be knocked out and the vote count begins again the next day. Readers can follow the vote count live on the Guardian’s website until the final days of voting, when the count goes dark.
