Critical habitat for Endangered birds could be destroyed forever, unless the Environment Minister rejects a proposed rocket launch facility at Whalers Way. Help save Whalers Way, by emailing Minister Plibersek, today!
We need your help to save Whalers Way. A proposed rocket launch facility on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula would destroy habitat critical to the survival of Endangered Mallee Whipbirds and Eyre Peninsula Southern Emu-wrens. The Minister must reject this proposal!
Thousands of Australians and conservation experts oppose this project. If it goes ahead it will directly breach plans to save birds from extinction – plans for which the Minister is accountable.
After thousands of emails from everyday Australians, the Minister has extended her decision deadline to September 20th! We must use these precious extra days to show her the community wants Whalers Way saved.
Use our email tool to help send the Minister a clear message, critical habitat for threatened species must be protected!

The proposed Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex (EPBC 2021/9013) will have significant and unacceptable impacts on EPBC-listed Threatened Australian birds, including the Mallee Whipbird and the Southern Emu-wren (Eyre Peninsula) – both listed as Endangered.
The Federal Government’s conservation goals and the Southern Emu-Wren’s (Eyre Peninsula) Conservation Advice specifically calls for the protection of habitat critical to their survival, meaning there ought to be just one decision for the Minister – to reject this proposal.
Southern Launch’s final proposal downplays the facts, by talking up the people in favour of the launch facility – neglecting to mention that over 95% of public comments opposed it, and for good reason. The final proposal calls on the Minister to ignore that both Mallee Whipbirds and Eyre Peninsula Southern Emu-wrens were sadly declared Endangered in 2023, despite this fact showing that these already EPBC-listed birds are facing obvious declines, which their proposal would exacerbate – given it is known habitat for these birds.
Anyone can cherry pick their words, but you can’t change the facts on the ground! The fact is that this project must be rejected if the Federal Government is to uphold its duty to the Conservation Advice, Recovery Plans, and its own stated conservation goals.
Please, help us save Whalers Way! Use our email tool, above, to ensure the Minister rejects this controversial and destructive project!
The emu-wrens are named for their six wispy, emu-like tail feathers.
