We are a small group of bird enthusiasts dedicated to observing birds. The group draws its membership primarily from the Bellarine Peninsula and Geelong, but also has members from as far afield as Melbourne.
Outings are generally conducted on the first Wednesday and third Sunday of most months.
We welcome visitors and newcomers, including complete beginners. Our members will help you find birds, and we usually have spare binoculars available.
We hold our Annual General Meeting in December each year, usually on the second Sunday in December. It is generally held in the home of one of our members, and doubles as an end-of-year celebration, including a pot luck lunch.
Outings are generally conducted on the first Wednesday and third Sunday of the month. The Wednesday outings are generally full-day outings, while Sunday outings are half days.
Outings or camps are held most months, with some exceptions (at the height of summer and the depths of winter). Some events are subject to attendee caps and we may require people to notify us of their intention to attend.
We hold weekend campouts twice a year, in autumn and spring, where we travel further afield within Victoria.
Our camps are usually for three nights, starting on Friday afternoon and finishing on Monday morning. We have full days of birding on Saturday and Sunday. We often suggest birding locations to visit on the way to and from the camp, and normally stay in caravan parks and cabins.
The camps are a great opportunity to have repeated viewings of birds in a short period of time, which is a great way to get more familiar with new birds.
While the group does not undertake any specific projects, individual members take part in formal activities such as Hooded Plover nest monitoring during breeding season, shorebird censuses and Orange-bellied Parrot surveys.
More detailed information about getting involved can be found in our regular newsletters, sent to mailing-list members. If you would like to be on this list and receive these newsletters, please contact us via the contact form on this page.
