Help save critically endangered Swift Parrots

The Critically Endangered Swift Parrot is one of just three migratory parrots on earth.

They spend the cooler months foraging amongst flowering gum trees on mainland Australia before flying across the Bass Strait to their only breeding ground in Tasmania.

Here, breeding pairs seek out hollow-bearing trees for hatching the next generation of Swift Parrots. The greatest threat driving these remarkable birds toward extinction is the destruction of their forest homes. Today, over half of the Swift Parrot’s breeding range has already been impacted and populations have declined to as few as 750 birds.

Unless stronger protections are urgently secured, Swift Parrots could disappear from the wild within our lifetime.

The threat has never been greater. Alongside ongoing habitat destruction, the presence of H5 bird flu in Australia could place additional pressure on a species already fighting for survival.

Join us in calling on the Government to act now to ensure we protect this unique, determined flyer and the habitat they depend on for future generations.

Swift Parrots depend on healthy forests and woodlands throughout their annual migration. As these habitats are cleared and degraded, the birds are losing the vital resources they need to survive.

Now is the time to speak up. Give Aussie birds a voice by calling on decision-makers to protect the irreplaceable Swift Parrot and the forests they depend on.
