Bird and Pet-friendly Rodent Control

If you are a regular reader of the BirdLife WA publications, then no doubt, you are already concerned about our birds, and probably well aware of the effects of rodenticides (particularly the second generation anticoagulant rodenticides- SGARS) on our owls and raptors. The question is, how do we disseminate this information to the regular public, those not involved with BirdLife WA?

We have a Southern Boobook Owl which occasionally can be seen in our local park and I worry for its future as I often find dead rats in my back yard which have obviously been poisoned.

BirdLife Australia has created a range of resources to help us share information about the dangers of using SGARS and pamphlets are available from our BirdLife WA office in Perry Lakes. I recently collected some pamphlets and both my local library and Council Offices (Town of Vincent) were more than happy to have these pamphlets placed so members of the public could take one. In addition, one of the Primary Schools I have a connection to was also happy to have these pamphlets on display.

Our wonderful members of the Community Engagement Committee distribute the pamphlets when they are doing talks, which is another outlet. We need to disseminate these pamphlets as widely as possible, as those people visiting our WA office are going to be already aware of the dangers of SGARS. If you have the time, please consider collecting some pamphlets and distributing them in your local area.
