Birds & Beans Social Bird Walk – Lake Weeroona Tuesday 5th May 2026 8:00am
Join us for a relaxed morning of birdwatching and coffee at the beautiful Lake Weeroona. This informal outing is a great opportunity to enjoy local birdlife while connecting with other bird enthusiasts in a friendly, social setting. We’ll take a leisurely walk around the lake, keeping an eye out for the many waterbirds and parkland species that frequent the area. Afterwards, we’ll gather nearby for a coffee and a chat—sharing sightings, stories, and enjoying the social side of birding.
Lake Weeroona supports a variety of birdlife throughout the year. Commonly seen species include Pacific Black Duck, Australian Wood Duck, Eurasian Coot, Dusky Moorhen, Australasian Swamphen, Australasian Darter and Little Pied Cormorant, along with parkland birds such as Galah, Rainbow Lorikeet and Red Wattlebird. The lake is also known to host a Nankeen Night Heron, which is occasionally seen roosting around the lake and is always a highlight for visiting birders and photographers.
This location is also ideal for bird photographers, as many of the species found around the lake are accustomed to people, providing excellent photographic opportunities.
Birds and Beans outings are open to everyone, from experienced birders and photographers to those just starting out. Bring your binoculars, camera, and a sense of curiosity.
What to bring/wear: Make sure to bring plenty of water, along with your binoculars and camera gear. Don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, long trousers, and sturdy closed shoes to keep safe from snakes.
Onsite Facilities: There are toilet facilities available. We will be visiting a local Cafe for coffee and sweets at the end of our walk.
