The Wings on King project monitors the birds of King Island to support their conservation and inform our understanding of the health of King Island’s environment.
The Wings on King project is managed by Birds of King Island (BoKI), with support from King Island Landcare Group and BirdLife Australia.
Launched in 2017, the project monitors birds at 60 established survey sites across King Island, including private land, so Wings on King volunteers get to visit places most visitors don’t.
Volunteers go out to survey birds in teams of two or more, including at least one experienced birder. BoKI can assign you to a team, or you can form your own.
For more information, visit the BoKI website.
King Island is located in Bass Strait, halfway between mainland Australia and Tasmania. There are direct flights to King Island from Melbourne (approx. 35-minute flight) and from mainland Tasmania, and people can fly from other cities, via Melbourne.
Participate in Wings on King at a relaxed pace over four days or add a note in the registration form if you can participate only on days 1 and 2.
