This survey site has two starting points for the same bird survey area.
The western entry gate is opposite One World Spares, Auto Parts Store “Wreckers Yard” 557 Old Northern Road (A9), Londonderry where there is limited roadside parking.
The eastern entry gate is at the junction of Spence Road and Llandilo Road, Berkshire Park where there is a lot of off-road parking.
Both starting points lead to the same triangular trail within the Nature Reserve. The central triangular part of both bird trails includes Barbaras Trail, Herb Trail and Powerline Trail. Each trail has its own small starting trail before linking with the central trails of this bird Survey site. There are Birdata Notice boards located just inside the Nature Reserve at both starting points.
View the Birdata Notice board just inside the Nature Reserve to clarify the bird survey trail for this location.
This site has no toilets.
As you walk along the survey trail, take note of all the birds you see and hear and of how many of each. This standardised survey is known as a ‘500m area search’. Click here for detailed instructions on how to survey this site.
Record your bird survey using the Birdata app.
Castlereagh Nature Reserve has a shared site to encourage repeat surveys. The shared site name on Birdata is Castlereagh NR CR66.
