The other woodland sites are:
Covering 490 hectares, and formerly a state forest, Castlereagh Nature Reserve has been managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service since 1995. The site is part of a wildlife corridor that links to the Windsor Downs Nature Reserve, and there is a rich diversity of vegetation.
There are three ecological communities at this site including:
Survey Trail 1.
In red on the map, the entrance is opposite the Motor Wreckers on The Northern Road, Berkshire Park. Start your survey as you head towards the Barbaras Trail sign and follow the red trail, as marked on the map, which includes a circuit back to Barbaras Trail.
Survey Trail 2.
In blue on the map, the entrance is opposite where Spence Road meets Llandilo Rd. Start your survey at the signpost of the junction of the Herb, Perimeter South and Llandilo Trails. Head down Herb Trail, as marked in blue on the map, until you reach the Powerline Trail and walk the circuit back to the Herb Trail and back to the start of the survey trail.
Please note this site has no toilets.
As you walk along the survey trail, take note of all the birds you see and hear and of how many of each. This standardised survey is known as a ‘500m area search’.
Record your bird survey using the Birdata app.
Castlereagh Nature Reserve has a shared site to encourage repeat surveys. The shared site name on Birdata is Castlereagh NR CR66.
