Calling your MP and Senator's electorate office is a quick, easy and effective way to engage them and help secure strong new nature laws to protect the birds you love.
In recent media, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese flagged that he was considering removing the decision-making role of the new federal Environment Protection Agency in legislation that is due to be debated in Parliament this soon.
This would take away the new agency’s role as an independent decision-maker in environmental assessments. Instead, the agency would only be able to look at whether developers, miners and other proponents were adhering to conditions of their approvals.
Can you please call your Labor MP today and tell them that you don’t support this move by the Labor party?
Pro-tip: We are prioritising calls to Labor MPs as the Prime Minister and Environment Minister sit in the lower house. However, if your MP is in the opposition or cross bench our tool will find your Federal Labor Senator and their phone number.

Making your call
The person who answers the phone in an electorate office might be an office manager or they might be an electorate officer whose job it is to take constituent calls like yours. Either way, remember to be polite and respectful, especially as they might get hundreds of these calls a day.
Ask for their support: Wrap up your conversation by clearly asking your MP or Senator to act. Be as direct as possible, such as asking, “Will [your MP/Senator’s name] commit to supporting stronger nature laws to protect our environment and raise this issue in the party room?”
After the call
Were you able to get any commitments from your MP, Senator or their office? Write down everything you can remember as soon as you can after you hang up.
Send a thank-you email that includes any commitments they made and reminds them about anything they said they would follow up on. This will ensure they know you will hold them accountable for these commitments and gives you an opportunity to follow up directly with them in the future.
The best way to get your local MP to take strong action for nature is to meet with them.
