Birdlife Bendigo-Echuca Annual Birding Excursion – Mildura/Hattah Kulkyne Monday October 5th – Thursday October 8th 2026
Join us for our Annual Birding Getaway as we head to the beautiful Murray River region based around Mildura and the renowned Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. This exciting multi-day outing will explore some of north-west Victoria’s most productive birding habitats, ranging from riverine woodlands and wetlands to expansive mallee country and saltbush plains.
Using Mildura as our base, we will visit a variety of local birding locations in search of some of the region’s special species, including the colourful Crimson Chat and Orange Chat. The area’s diverse habitats regularly support a rich array of parrots, honeyeaters, raptors, waterbirds, and woodland species, ensuring there is always something interesting to discover along the way.
A major highlight of the getaway will be time spent exploring Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, one of Victoria’s premier inland birding destinations. Within the park’s extensive mallee habitats we will be on the lookout for several highly sought-after species including Malleefowl, Striated Grasswren, Mallee Emu-wren, Regent Parrot, Mulga Parrot, and Pink Cockatoo, to name just a few. The combination of mallee scrub, pine woodland, and floodplain forest makes Hattah an exciting destination where every walk and track can produce memorable sightings.
This getaway promises a wonderful blend of rewarding birding, spectacular outback scenery, relaxed exploration, and great company while discovering some of Victoria’s most iconic inland bird species.
