Overview

Half-day excursion

This is a 5.0 km walk from the carpark to the Herdsman Lake Settlers Cottage and return. More than 160 species of bird have been recorded at Herdsman Lake. Herdsman Lake contains one of the most varied and easily observed waterbird fauna of any Lake in southwestern Australia due primarily to its wide range of habitats, as well as an important breeding site for at least 20 species, including Australian Reed Warbler, Australasian Swamphen, Black Swan and Little Grassbird.

Bring your telescope if you have one. Bring a chair and morning tea to have while we do a combined bird list.

For BWA members and their guests. Members of the public are welcome to join the walk (bring binoculars).

Getting there

Meet to start at 8:30 am at the Herdsman Lake Regional Park Car park. The entry to the car park is located on Jon Sanders Drive between Selby Street North and Stephenson Avenue. The car park we will use is nearest to the Popeye Lake Playground.
